There are so many issues important to all of us as students. As students and as your student government, we want you to “speak up” on issues important to you. On a wide range of issues – from off campus living conditions, to our student union, to safety – all of us have ideas that can make a difference. SGA has launched a new program called “Speak UP” to encourage all students to stand up and speak up on issues important to all of us. We want to have a conversation about the challenges we all face as students and to find solutions. On anything from student game seating, to the menu options in the dorms, to how we can make the bus line more efficient – we want you to speak up. Log onto the Student Government web site to visit the open thread blogs to post your thoughts or e-mail us your ideas and thoughts to the SGA e-mail account or you can e-mail me directly or Milisa Cutlip. Come to an SGA meeting or feel free to stop by our office, or drop us a Facebook message. We want you to Speak UP on the issues important to you and be heard.

We must be a dry campus. It would improve the character of our university greatly maybe even talk to the city about banning alcohol within city limits or even try a county ban. If you think banning the alcohol would cause us to lose students; wouldn’t you think it would be for the better?
Hey, guys. I want to say first that you guys do a great job. It’s refreshing to hear someone listening to the students on the important issues. I have a lot of “ideas, ” but I want to start off with a small one: recycling. The DA article about it today got me thinking. I was never big into recycling, but I have found myself lately getting more involved with it and conservation. I noticed something today that I think needs attention: the Rec Center doesn’t have anywhere to recycle paper! I asked around about it, and a response I got was possibly because of the plastic-only policy inside the gym. However, the person I talked to and I both agreed that no one seems to be threatening the plcae with paper drinks! :) With all the paper towels used and the newspapers outside, I think it makes sense to have a paper one. I find that paper is the easiest, yet most overlooked material. A routine that I recently started got me thinking. Every evening, after I finish reading the paper, I set it down by my front door. When I go to class in the morning, I take it with me. I drop it in a bin en route to getting a new one for that day. Wouldn’t be great if we could put paper bins specifically next to the DA bins? A sign like “Read the DA ever day…and RECYCLE it!” would be great. What do you guys think? These are just some ideas I’ve been thinking about.
I’d like to file a complaint about the “security” measures implemented for the WVU Master ID, MIX, and STAR systems. First, the separate passwords are frustrating. Second, the forced quarterly changes are absurd, no online banking system I’ve used (BB&T, Citi, FNB) has required this. Implementing security for accounts above and beyond what is done for financial information is absurd. The attempt to appear “secure” seems to be little more than that appearance. If the school is worried about having passwords stored on shared computers simply configure them to delete all browsing history, passwords, visited websites, etc. every time the user logs off the shared computer.
To summarize, the system adds little in security and causes significant irritation and headaches. Removing the quarterly change requirement would go a long way to fixing the problems.
Thank you for your time.
Dear SGA,
I have been a student at WVU for the past four years. While I commend the University for moving towards “going green” there is one thing that should be changed. Dining Services and the University needs to eliminate styrofoam in the dining halls and on campus. Styrofoam is one of the worst possible materials for the enviroment. According to San Fransisco Enviroment (sfenviroment.org) “styrofoam is made of crude oil non-renewable, non-compostable and currently remains an unfeasible recyclable commodity.” In addition sytrofoam can be break into smaller pieces and be ingested my animal life. There are plenty of other options such as paper or plastic. As far as the styrofoam carry out boxes (in the dining halls); every student should be encouraged to buy a plastic reusable box or it simply should come with their meal plan. JACS should be using recycled paper cups for their coffee. I strongly encourage the SGA to push for the elimination of styrofoam on campus.
The landlords in this town are horrible. There are ALOT of slumlords in this town… Bck Rentals, Panco Properties, District Apartments… The SGA should help to promot the new rate my landlords website. http://wvulandlords.com
Jason,
—- Kevin PatrickYou need to come out and represent the students by demanding Garrison’s resignation before June 6th, and express that opinion at the BoG. You should still have my cell number. Call me and we’ll get a meal and talk.
Hello Jason,
My name is Sherry and I am current freshman. I have a suggestion about any type of university based I guess parties is what I am looking for. I know a place where I am from in Maryland that rents equipment and runs events. They have things like moon bounces and many many more exciting If you are not the person to talk to about this could you give me the e-mail for the correct person in charge of such events? I know that they will give us a deal because my older sister is the person in charge there. Thanks
